The Netherlands has one of the world’s greatest maritime reputations going back centuries. The Dutch ensign on a yacht is held in very high regard by all nations of the globe and ensures that there are few or no problems with customs in ports, in contrast to the flags of other, exotic nationalities. You won’t have to face additional checks and distrust if your yacht is registered in the Netherlands.
Even the Russian czar visited Holland in person three centuries ago where he learned a lot from world-renowned Dutch maritime experts.
2. Comparatively low costs
If for example you were to register your yacht in Luxembourg, this would often cost you tens of thousands of Euros every year. Every year a substantial bill would come through your letterbox for management costs, management often meaning nothing more than sending a high annual invoice.

3. No-worry insurance
Yachts registered in the Netherlands can be insured with Dutch insurers without difficulty. The following example proves that this is not always automatic.
Ships registered in the small eastern state of Delaware in the USA come under the American legal system. On the basis of US law, the owner of a boat registered there has a very high liability risk. This makes it much more difficult to find an insurer for yachts registered in Delaware who will offer favourable terms.
4. The Dutch tax environment
The Netherlands has a favourable tax environment. These favourable tax regulations can also apply if your boat is used for charter purposes.
The role of Astra Mare
Astra Mare Yacht Brokers will arrange the entire registration process in the Netherlands for any leisure craft in the world. We use professionals in this process such as chartered accountants and lawyers, with whom Astra Mare works very closely.
The cost picture
Astra Mare can arrange the entire registration in the Netherlands for a fixed fee of € 4,500.00. This amount is exclusive of the one-off costs of the Dutch certificate of measurement – the official statement of the tonnage and the loading capacity of a ship – and the paperwork that has to be kept plus the tax returns submitted to the tax authorities. The recurring annual costs are only € 2,500.00, excluding the costs of administration and submitting tax returns to the tax authorities.
As the owner of a yacht, you can of course appoint your own accountant to look after your paperwork and tax returns. But as a customer of Astra Mare Yacht Brokers, you can also use our accountants, which entitles you to the large discount we have negotiated for your paperwork.
The annual costs for non-commercial administration, including tax returns, come to € 750.00 per annum at a registered accountant appointed by Astra Mare.
The annual costs for commercial administration, including tax returns, come to € 2,650.00 at a registered accountant appointed by Astra Mare.
Your online registration account
As a customer you will have your own online account in the online registration software, which enables you to follow the entire registration process in ‘real time’. This also allows you to download all documents and submit your application to register your yacht in the Netherlands to us.
We will arrange everything for you from the moment your application is received!
